Yesterday I went and had the pad thai at Thai Island. All I can really say is that I'm going to miss not having this available to me anymore.
It really is delicious! Shrimp and chicken and tofu and more shrimp. Just a big bowl of delicious.
These are the posts from the old NotWeasel For Lunch blog, mostly about my adventures in trying everything I could find in the food courts near my work.

While doing some last minute xmas shopping, I dropped in to Wendy's on Yonge St. near Wellesley for a classic single and a caesar salad.
The food was regular Wendy's food, which is tasty but nothing special. Good burger. Fresh salad.
What surprised me was while I was eating, one of the staff came by with a little basket of cups and a carafe of coffee and asked if I'd like some. Then another came around shortly after and asked if I wanted a mint.
At Wendy's.
Very cool. Looks like someone has decided to provide some actual service in the service industry above and beyond the bare minimum.
I commend them. Dave would have been proud!
I went to KFC today and found that they've changed all their menu posters to new ones with higher prices.
Merry Christmas to you too, you cheap chicken slaughtering bastards.
I was going to take a shot at ordering the classic combo with the poutine and two additional pieces of chicken as I'd talked about in the very first post in this blog.
Now that's gonna cost over $10 though so I'm just not going to bother.
Instead, I got one of their special boxes that had the classic chicken sandwich, some little breaded bits of chicken they probably don't know what else to do with, fries, a small salad, an apple pie, and a drink.
The alternative to this, for the exact same price, is a Big Crunch combo, which includes the sandwich, fries, and a drink.
Seems to me that KFC has just dropped way down my list of places I enjoy eating lunch at. It's only 50 cents or so more for everything… but it's enough to notice the hike and feel I've been gouged right before xmas.
The colonal would have never let this happen. They should be ashamed of themselves!
Today we went to some rich folk deli in the Royal York Hotel.
Had an overpriced reuben sandwich and some baby shrimp chowder with some sort of peanut butter cookie.
It cost too much, but I suppose it tasted about as good as you can expect from a reuben sandwich and baby shrimp chowder.
That's about all there is to say about that place. I'd rather have a burrito… but we were in the area and hadn't eaten there before so I guess it was a good experience.
I'm pretty sure I've written about this place before but a quick search turns up nothing for me.
Today I went to Thai Island, which is in the food court at TD Centre.
This is by far the best food court in the downtown core that I know of. Thai Island has excellent food court pad thai, among the other things they offer.
Generally, when I get there I look to see whether the daily special looks good. If so, I get it. If not, I get the pad thai.
Today the special was thai peanut chicken and it was excellent!
Not much more to say, other than that I'm looking forward to the next time I get to go here.
Back to Burrito Boyz!
Today I had the steak quesadilla. It's got all the flavour of the small burrito with but a fraction of the practicality!!
This is almost certainly going to be the first place at which I run out of menu items. Thankfully we were able to sit at the small bar at the back and eat because this thing just won't work while standing out on the street.
I'm not quite sure what I was supposed to do with it. It was cut into a few pieces stacked up in a styrofoam container with little containers of sour cream and salsa.
I took a knife and fork, thinking that might work but couldn't really cut pieces off it in the styrofoam. Failing at that, I just picked them up, dipped them in the sauces, and ate them.
I couldn't help but thinking it would have been much better if the sauces were just inside the shells rather than having to dip them… and the whole thing was somehow contained in such a way that I might be able to just pick it up and eat it. That would have been much more convenient.
Today I had a dentist appointment at lunch so I didn't have time to sit down and have a meal.
Instead, I stopped by the vendor dog cart in front of my work and got a spicy Italian sausage.
Delicious as usual. Sometimes it's nice to just eat complete crap and enjoy it.
It occurred to me as I bought it that with this "eat something different" thing to keep up, I'll have to start trying the other types they offer. God help me if I end up at the veggie dog.
I love this place.
If you haven't been yet… go.
Today I had the shrimp burrito. Better than the halibut, but not quite as good as the steak. Not much else to say about it though. It was still delicious as expected.
You really can't go wrong here. It's all good.
Maybe when I get to the meatless ones I'll have something negative to say… but I doubt it.
Chinese place today. I had the #1, which I believe was BBQ pork and tofu chicken, on rice, with some hot and sour soup.
I'm not really sure whether tofu chicken is tofu, chicken, or some combination of the two.
Overall, I didn't really like this dish. The pork was too bony and fatty. The soup was pretty good though. I'm glad I opted for that over the alternative, which is a bottle of water.
Still looking forward to having the 10 with noodles.
Definitely won't order this one again.
I just thought I'd mention that on Thursday, I was on vacation, out at the malls doing some xmas shopping so I didn't have lunch.
Friday, I had an xmas lunch with my coworkers. We went to the Keg and it was greatly overpriced for a pre-set-menu lunch that didn't even include the cost of soft drinks.
I don't really have anything else to say about that. It doesn't really fit in with the premise here, so I'll just leave it alone.
I'm sure today's lunch will be extremely exciting! Stay tuned to find out what I eat later today!!!
