These are the posts from the old NotWeasel For Lunch blog, mostly about my adventures in trying everything I could find in the food courts near my work.

Pizza and Curry

Yesterday I had some sort of Chicken pizza at Piazza Manna at TD Centre.

It was good pizza, but probably not worth the premium they want over the regular pizza they have. It's an extra dollar because it's special. It doesn't really seem justified.

Today I went out with my coworkers for Indian buffet. As good as it is, it's just never as good as the home cooked stuff. I think my wife's grandmother should open a restaurant in my kitchen.

Food Court Veal Sandwich

There's an Italian place at Metro Hall and the veal-on-a-bun was recommended to me.

It was good, but certainly not great. It didn't hold a candle to the veal sandwich you can get from St. Lawrence Market.

Considering it came from a food court, I suppose it was about as expected but there's just no excuse for the fact that there just wasn't enough veal on it. It should have had a few layers rather than one flat piece sitting on the bun.

Apparently their chicken sandwich has more substance to it. The veal was good enough that I'll go back and try the chicken to compare.

Happy Freakin' Monday.

I've had a headache all morning and just generally would rather be in bed today.

That said, lunch was a pleasant surprise. I had the Pork Chop Noodle Soup from New Wok New Wok at First Canadian Place and it was pretty good. It seems sort of strange to take a deep fried pork chop and throw it into soup, but the end result was decent. I enjoyed it and I think I'm going to try some of their other noodle soups in the future.

If you're wondering about the end of last week… it was rather uneventful. I skipped lunch on Thursday and on Friday, I went to lunch with my coworkers at Philthy McNasty's. That's usually a good time but this time around the food came way too late due to some sort of mixup. I had some sort of chicken pasta and all I thought was that it wasn't as good as the Parmesan Chicken Bowties from Jack Astor's. The food ended up free because of the delay though, so I have to say that the service was very respectable if not really up to snuff. They made amends for what went wrong and that sort of thing goes a long way in my books.

McD's and Asian Cuisine.

On Tuesday, things were hectic since I came in late to work after getting my car fixed, so there wasn't really time to go for lunch. I ended up just going over to McD's and tried the grilled chicken sandwich that I thought I was ordering the last time I was there.

I liked it. I'd never go to McD's for chicken, but it was pretty good. If you find yourself standing at the order counter and not wanting a regular burger, I'd definitely recommend this thing. It's a bit pricy considering the size of it but if you don't have any options then you might as well pay for it and get something you'll like.

Yesterday I tried Asian Cuisine at the TD food court. I won't go back. It just wasn't memorable and there are MANY great places to go to in that food court. That's all there is to say about that.

Falling behind…

I seem to keep having to do double entries here. Must be getting too busy these days.

On Friday, we went to the Chinese place and I had the #8. It came looking like a big plate of worms with some chicken in it, and it was delicious. I really liked it and I think I would have this again now and then.

Today, I went to the Indian place in First Canadian Place. I can't remember the name of it and they didn't give me a receipt to read from so that's all you get.

I had a tandoori chicken wrap and it was great. It wasn't much of a wrap though, and had to be eaten out of the styrofoam box with a knife and fork. It was basically just a big mess.

The samosa wasn't all that great so I think next time rather than the combo, I'd be quite happy with just the "wrap" with a cup of water.

The stuff in the styrofoam box was delicious! It had just enough kick to be tasty without being overbearing and there was plenty of meat. Not shabby at all!

More schnizel and a burrito.

Hardly an original entry today, though there's a bit of useful info.

First of all, yesterday I went to Pumpernickel's and had the schnizel again, this time with Swiss cheese. Still amazing and still highly recommended.

I'm wondering now though whether the cheese is even needed at all. I don't think it was any better or worse than it was with the marble cheddar, and I think it might be just as good with no cheese at all. I might as well save the few cents.

Today we went back to Burrito Boyz. I'll be honest here… I'm just running out of menu items to try and stretching it by just going with different toppings.

Today I had a small steak burrito without any hot stuff. No peppers and no hot sauce. I think the best config is one with hot sauce and no peppers. That's just the right amount of heat. This one was a little bland. Still filling and delicious, but their hot sauce is good stuff!

Harvey's Angus Burger

Today I had the Angus Burger combo from Harvey's.

It was good, as Harvey's always is, but it was also the same price as the double burger.

I had it with the buffalo sauce on it and found it didn't make much difference. Next time I'll have the double and find out if it's just as tasty. If it is, then there's really no point in getting the Angus.

Time will tell…

Chinese Place: Double Cooked BBQ Pork

We ventured out into the cold today to get to our regular Chinese haunt. It was a bit of a trek, but as always it was worth it.

Today I had something new. It was so new they used a pink sheet of paper on the wall and everything.

It was double cooked BBQ pork with some spicy oyster sauce and cabbage and noodles with some other veggies strewn about here and there.

I'm not really sure what double cooked means, but it was reasonably good. A little chewy, but tasty.

I miss the 10 with noodles, but all the other dishes have been good enough to keep me happily coming back.

KFC, with a coupon!

Back to Scotia Plaza today for some KFC. A friend had a coupon for $3 off a 4-piece chicken meal so that's what I had.

4 pieces is a LOT of chicken to be having for lunch, and I think the people there like me since they were all good sized pieces!

This was a hell of a lunch for just over $6. Probably the least healthy thing I've had all week though. Fried chicken and fries and macaroni salad filled with mayo just can't be good for my arteries.

I don't suppose there's much more to say about this other than that nobody needs a 4 piece chicken meal for lunch.

At least it didn't come with a dessert to accidentally throw out.

Complaint about Burrito Boyz??

Sadly, today I had my first less than perfect experience at Burrito Boyz, though it really wasn't that bad.

Check the archives for all the great times but alas, I finally got one that was slightly overgrilled.

It still tasted delicious, but with the lack of trays or decent seating, it made it almost impossible to eat the whole thing.

The overgrilling caused the shell to become brittle and it just started falling apart in my hands. Every time I'd peel back a bit of the paper, more stuff just fell out onto the table and my hands.

Was it ever tasty though!

It was a small bean and cheese burrito and it was awesome. I just wish I could have eaten the whole thing rather than just what I managed to get into my mouth without dropping.

And I think I ate some of the paper wrapping.

Probably the best tasting paper wrapping I've ever had.
