What a fun weekend in motorsports!
I just got a shiny new PVR so now I can actually catch the F1 races without having to skip my Sunday beauty sleep.

Yesterday's race was just plain good fun, unless of course you're a Ferrari fan. Watching them foul up their own seemingly sure victory was great entertainment.

Then, in the Sprint Cup race, seeing Hot Carl divebomb the corner and plant himself into the wall in a last ditch attempt to pass Jimmie was hilarious! I'm no Hot Carl fan, but I give him props for the insane attempt, and Jimmie full credit for keeping a cool head while watching it unfold, and then just driving by for the win.

I'm all for Jimmie winning three championships in a row. He may not be my favourite (though I suppose he's close), but he and Chad sure do deserve it for the way they work together!

As for Clint Bowyer, who I had picked to keep my winning streak going in the Fantasy game, he deserves a firm KITN for blowing it not once, but twice by speeding on pit road. He tossed away a certain top 10 finish with that bone-head move. I'm sure Mikey was giggling to himself when he heard about that one.

And finally... WTF is up with JGR???

I honestly feel terrible for Kyle Busch. Love him or hate him, he should be fighting right now for the lead and it's just a shame that car troubles have completely killed his chase. Here's hoping next year will at least give him the opportunity he deserves at the end, which is to be a contender winning or losing on the track rather than in the garage.

Elizabeth May Might Be Insane
Green Party leader Elizabeth May has got her panties in a bunch over not being allowed to participate in the nationally televised leaders debates.

Apparently she thinks it's sexist.

She says "This is anti-democratic, closed-door, back-room decision making by four national party leaders who are all men, and five television executives who are all men, to keep out the one woman leader of a federal political party and I don't think many Canadians will think that was fair,"

I think maybe someone should tell her that it has nothing to do with her being a woman, and everything to do with the fact that she's from a second-rate tree-hugger party with no chance at having any sort of significant impact on parliament. If she clues in to this, she might save herself further embarassment. Insulting the intelligence of the average Canadian to gain a little press isn't going to help her cause.

Consider if every party with no shot at more than a seat or two was allowed to put their leader into these debates. We'd have the 4 leaders of the parties that get elected, along with a whole peanut gallery of fringe party leaders basically just looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Heck, every independant candidate across the country could claim they're a party of one and ask to be included.

It would be like Survivor, Canadian Debates.

I'm sure this would be hugely entertaining, but I'm not sure what value this would have to our electoral process.

Of course, it wouldn't happen because we're probably prejudiced against all those other "leaders" too, for whatever reason they might find convenient to each of their selves.

Elizabeth May should definitely have a chat with her allegedly pot-smoking hippie tree-hugger advisors and perhaps take a step into the 21st century.

It's the Rowdy Busch and Hot Carl Show!!!
The next few Sprint Cup races before the Chase begins are going to be an absolute blast.

Bumping Kyle out of the way on Saturday night, Hot Carl has officially thrown down the gauntlet and I expect every other driver will be doing their best now to just stay away from either of them.

Up until now, neither of them cared about anything but winning. Now I think it's just as important to each of them that if they can't win... neither can the other guy.

It should make for some great fun, and I really hope Kyle gets the better end of the deal.

Or we could just get lucky and HC could break something during one of his smarmy backflips.

I like Flashpoint
There's a new show on CTV called Flashpoint. It's Canadian made, and filmed in Toronto, and makes no effort to disguise this fact. Much of the series so far has been right in the downtown core and has made heavy use of local landmark sites like RBC Plaza and the Eaton Centre.

When word of this show started making the rounds, I fully expected it to be just another crappy Canadian made drama with mediocre production values and nothing to keep watchers from just switching over to one of the more mainstream competitors. Boy, was I ever pleasantly surprised!

I've seen three episodes now, and thoroughly enjoyed every one! This show is GOOD! Perhaps there's a certain amount of novelty in seeing my daily surroundings in the show, but there's real quality here that goes quite beyond that. The characters are interesting, and the situations are very topical and engaging.

If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly suggest you take the time to watch. It's far better than I was expecting, and certainly good enough to keep me coming back for more each week.

As an interesting sidenote, it looks like CBS is impressed as well, as they'll be airing the show in prime time in the US now. Good job, CTV!
